Angels Turn Rare Triple Play, Edge Dodgers in Extra-Inning Thriller

ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Los Angeles Angels pulled off the eighth triple play in franchise history on Tuesday night, helping them secure a 7-6 extra-inning victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers. Shortstop Zach Neto starred in the defensive gem, recording two putouts and an assist off a sharp line drive from Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani.
The defensive highlight came in the sixth inning with Miguel Rojas on second and Dalton Rushing on first. Ohtani ripped a liner up the middle past reliever Brock Burke, but Neto made a quick snag, stepped on second to retire Rojas, and fired to first baseman Nolan Schanuel to catch Rushing off the bag. Rushing landed awkwardly on the base and stayed down momentarily after the tag.
Ohtani quickly bounced back, blasting his NL-leading 43rd home run — and fourth straight game with a homer — off Kenley Jansen in the ninth to give the Dodgers a 6-5 lead. But the Angels rallied in the bottom half and walked it off in the 10th on Jo Adell’s clutch RBI single.
This was the Angels’ first triple play since August 18, 2023, and it extended their perfect 5-0 record against the Dodgers this season. The loss dropped the Dodgers into a first-place tie with the San Diego Padres in the NL West after suffering their third straight defeat.
